River Campsite in Costa Rica

A special feature of Spanish by the River in Turrialba, Costa Rica is that it has its own river campsite on the banks of the world-famous Pacuare where students can use all facilities for only $20 a night! Two bathrooms, two fully equipped kitchens and lots of platforms on which the tents are located make up “Gekui Rivercamp”. All tents have mattresses, pillows and sheets. Bathing in the river, hiking to the waterfall and crossing the river in an indigenous “basket ferry” to hike in the tropical rainforest on the other side of the river are some of the attractions, but of course just relaxing in a hammock and enjoying the garden could be enough activity for you! In the night you can see an amazing amount of stars and have a nice candlelight dinner.

  • Student Comments

As complete beginners we were a little apprehensive about learning Spanish, but the teachers were very kind and patient. I felt very at ease (trying) to talk in Spanish! I wish we could have stayed longer.
