Panama, whose Indian name means “abundance of fish” is mostly known for its man-made canal, one of the engineering marvels of the world, but has much more to offer. In total there are 1518 islands off the long coasts and surfers, deep sea fishers, divers as well as sailors have discovered Panama as their heaven on earth. Contrary to Costa Rica, Panama’s indigenous population (there are 7 tribes) constitutes a sizeable minority that proudly tries to preserve its traditions. Traditional Spanish Festivals are celebrated often in the interior of the country. The history of Panama is full of riches; Peruvian gold was carried by Spaniards from the Panama City to Portobelo on the Caribbean Coast, where it was shipped to Spain. Nowadays, Panama has the highest per-capita income of the Central American countries, but half of the population is living in poverty and by the end of the week has no money in its pockets. Tourism in Panama is booming and many foreigners have already discovered Panama as a wonderful country to travel or retire to.

We will make sure we know your specific interests before starting the excursion. The first excursion will take place on the “Quetzal Trail” and depending on the time of year, you may see birds like the Three-wattled Bellbird, the Resplendent Quetzal, wrens and the Fiery-throated Hummingbird. The second excursion will take you to a place known as the “Continental Divide” (known as the one of the best birdwatching locations in Panama) to see birds like Jays, Toucans, Aracari’s and Trogons.

This “Old Part,” is the most colorful part of Panama City. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1997. It’s a city within the city, and one from a different age. During this walking tour, guides will point out the different architectural styles.
Embera Indigenous Village
The trip starts on the Chagres River at Lago Alajuela, from there you will ride in a traditional cayuco (dug-out canoe), to the Emberá indigenous village. At the village, you will be welcomed by the villagers who will give an introduction to the culture, religion, art, language, food, and lifestyle of their people. Whilst there you will be served a traditional lunch of Tilapia fish and fried plantains. Other presentations include a trail walk through the jungle, a musical dance and performance, and the chance to swim in a crystal clear river at a majestic waterfall.
San Blas Island Trip
It is not too much to say that Kuna Yala (or also called San Blas) is one of the most fascinating places in the Americas. This autonomous indigenous region in the Republic of Panama is comprised of an archipelago of 356 islands in the Caribbean Sea, of which only 51 are inhabited. With its virgin nature and beaches of white sand and pristine water, Kuna Yala deserves the name of “Pearl of the Caribbean”. This two day trip takes you to Cartí island where you’ll have a room in a home stay and three meals a day as well as a daily snorkel/beach trip to a different island.
